"Real-world" Activities Cancelled
. . . but see Newsletters and Virtual Exhibitions
As we face unprecedented changes due to the Covid-19 virus, the committee have reached the difficult decision to suspend all of the events and activities organised by Wokingham Art Society until further notice. This includes our annual summer exhibition in July/August.
Hopefully the restriction to our normal activities will allow many of us actually to spend more time painting and to enjoy the opportunity to catch up with all sorts of things that we haven't found the time to do. Our homes and gardens will reap the benefit I'm sure.
Wishing you all the best and that you remain in good health as we step into this new phase of social isolation.I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Sue Smith, Chairman, Wokingham Art Society.
and here is Paul Bannings' response.
"So sad about this present situation, but feel you are making the right suggestions for Wokingham Art Society, and let us all hope that the future will be bright and beneficial for all of us.
Hard times ahead, so we need strong character and strong hearts.
Love to you and all the members of Wokingham Art Society
Although there will be no reports of meetings and Galleries are likely to be closed for the foreseeable future, the Newsletter will still have a role to play in maintaining a sense of belonging amongst our members starting with advice on projects for the housebound and information about on-line opportunities to exhibit our work.
As Sue suggests, "Self-isolating" should not mean "at a loss". A large part of Paul Banning's presentation last month was to promote the benefits to be obtained from developing our appetites and skills for sketching. The current situation can actually provide a useful timeslot for the achievement of this goal.
If you have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me or any other members of the committee. - Rod Jones, Newsletter Editor, Wokingham Art Society
